هٰذَا بَابٌ جَرَى مَجْرَى الْفَاعِلِ الَّذِي يَتَعَدَّاهُ فِعْلُهُ إِلَى مَفْعُوْلَيْنِ
في اللَّفْظِ لَا فِي الْمَعْنَى

هٰذَا بَابٌ جَرَى مَجْرَى الْفَاعِلِ الَّذِي يَتَعَدَّاهُ فِعْلُهُ إِلَى مَفْعُوْلَيْنِ 1١٨٠٧٥ this is a topic that follows
Implied: هٰذَا بَاْبٌ مِنِ اسْمِ الْفَاْعِلِ الَّذي جَرَى “this is a topic of the nominal of the enactant [i.e. the active participle] that follows...”, in parallel to the title of the preceding article.
the course of the enactant
NB: the enactant (a semantic notion), not the nominal of the enactant (participle); his concern is semantic: the participle (word-type) whose behavior (in speech) matches what expresses the di-transitive action (not “verb”) of an enactant (not “participle”).

في اللَّفْظِ لَا فِي الْمَعْنَى 2٣٠١٢٤ in pronunciation, not in meaning
Such participles take two direct objects in speech, but they are not semantically di-transitive.
وَذٰلِكَ قَوْلُكَ يَا سَاْرِقَ اللَّيْلَةِ أَهْلَ الدَّاْرِ 3٠٢٠٥٩ and that is your saying yā sāriq _l-laylat Ɂahl ـd-dār
«O you-robbing[acc] of the night[gen] the folk[acc] of the house[gen]»
وَ تَقُوْلُ عَلَى هٰذَا الْحَدِّ سَرَقْتُ اللَّيْلَةَ أَهْلَ الدَّارِ 4٩٧٥٩١ and you say on this discipline saraq-tu _l-laylat Ɂahl ـd-dār
«I robbed the night[acc] the folk[acc] of the house[gen]»
«I robbed tonight[acc] the folk[acc] of the house[gen]»
فَتُجْرِي اللَّيْلَةَ عَلَى الْفِعْلِ في سَعَةِ الْكَلَامِ 5٦٢٣٤٦ so you make _l-laylat
the night; tonight

I.e. you treat اللَّيْلَةَ as direct object of the verb سَرَقْتُ
, in expansion of speech
I.e. in figurative speech. One does not literally “rob the night”, so treating اللَّيْلَةَ as direct object of سَرَقْتُ is a figurative (non-literal) use of language.
كَمَا قَالَ صِيْدَ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَاْنِ 6٨٧٥٠٩ as he says ṣīd ʕalay-hi yawmāni
«Two days[nom] were-hunted upon-it»
«It was-hunted upon it for two days»
وَوُلِدَ لَهُ سِتُّوْنَ عَاْمًا 7٩٤٧٨٨ and wulida la-hu sittūna ʕāmᵃⁿ
«Sixty[nom] were born to him in years[acc]»
«He is sixty years old»
فَالَلَّفْظُ يَجْرِي عَلَى قَوْلِهِ هٰذَا مُعْطِي زَيْدٍ دِرْهَمًا 8٤٤٢٣١ so the pronunciation
Pronunciation of يَا سَاْرِقَ اللَّيْلَةِ أَهْلَ الدَّاْرِ
flows on his saying hāðă muʕṭī zaydᵢₙ dirhamᵃⁿ
«This one gave Zayd a dirham»
«This is a giver of Zayd[gen] a dirham[acc]»
وَالْمَعْنَى إِنَّمَا هُوَ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ 9٩٢٨٥٨ and the meaning rather it is fī ـl-laylat
in the night
وَصِيْدَ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْيَوْمَيْنِ 10٤٣٣٨٣ and ṣīd ʕalay-hi fī _l-yawmayni
«It was-hunted upon-it in two-days»
غَيْرَ أَنَّهُمْ أَوْقَعُوْا الْفِعْلَ عَلَيْهِ لِسَعَةِ الْكَلَامِ 11٣٨٤٩٦ other than that they make the action occur upon it
They treat the action (e.g. robbing) as befalling/affecting the complement (e.g. the night).
, by expansion of speech
وَكَذٰلِكَ لَوْ قُلْتَ هٰذَا مُخْرِجُ الْيَوْمِ الدِّرْهَمَ 12٣٩٩٥٠ and likewise if you were to say hāðă muxrij _l-yawm _d-dirham
«This one produces today the dirham»
وَ هٰذَا صَائِدُ الْيَوْمِ الْوَحْشَ 13١٤٧٨٣ and hāðă ṣāɁid _l-yawm _l-waḥš
«hunting the beast today»
«hunter of the day[gen] the beast[acc]»
وَمِثْلُ مَا أُجْرِيَ مُجْرَى هٰذَا في سَعَةِ الْكَلَامِ وَالاسْتِخْفَافِ 14٠٤٥٤٥ and like what is made to flow this course in expansion of speech and lightening
قَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بَلْ مَكْرُ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ 15١٢٩٣٥ is His saying (Glorified and Sublime be He)
فَاللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ لَا يَمْكُرَاْنِ وَلَكِنَّ الْمَكْرَ فِيْهِمَا 16٤٤٤١٦ for the night and the day do not scheme, but the scheming is in them[2]
فَإِنْ نَوَّنْتَ فَقُلْتَ يَا سَاْرِقًا اللَّيْلَةَ أَهْلَ الدَّاْرِ 17٤٢٥٢٩ now if you nūnate so you say yā sāriqᵃⁿ _l-laylat Ɂahl ـd-dār
«O you-robbing[acc.indef] the night[acc] the folk[acc] of the house[gen]»
كَاْنَ حَدُّ الْكَلَامِ أَنْ يَكُوْنَ أَهْلُ الدَّاْرِ عَلَى سَارِقٍ مَنْصُوْبًا 18٥٥٣١٠ then the discipline of speech is that ˀahl _d-dār

I.e. adverbial, rather than a direct object complement of the verb.
لِأَنَّ هٰذَا مَوْضِعُ انْفِصَاْلٍ 20٩٠٩٨٨ since this is a situation of separation
Since سَاْرِقًا has tanwīn, it can be separated from its direct object complement (here, أَهْلَ الدَّاْرِ) by an (accusative) adverbial like اللَّيْلَةَ, whereas if it were non-nūnated it would have to form an inseparable unit with a majrūr (retracted) complement, e.g. يَا سَاْرِقَ أَهْلِ الدَّارِ.
وَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَجْرَيْتَهُ عَلَى الْفِعْلِ عَلَى سَعَةِ الْكَلَامِ 21٥٩٠٦٨ and if you will you make it flow on the action
In other words, اللَّيْلَةَ admits of two distinct interpretations: adverbial or direct object (figuratively) of the verb.

وَلَا يَجُوْزُ *يَا سَاْرِقَ اللَّيْلَةَ أَهْلِ الدَّاْرِ إِلَّا في شِعْرٍ 22٢٨٢٧٨ and * yā sāriq _l-laylat Ɂahl ـd-dār
*«O you-robbing[acc] the night[acc] of the folk[gen] of the house[gen]»
does not pass except in poetry
كَرَاهِيَةَ أَنْ يَفْصِلُوا بَيْنَ الْجَارِّ وَالْمَجْرُوْرِ 23٢٢٦٨٦ out of hating that they separate between the retractor and the retracted
Here الْجارُّ (the retractor) is سَارِقَ (robbing/robber), and الْمَجْرُوْرُ (the retracted) is أَهْلِ الدَّارِ (of the folk of the house).
فَإِذَا كَاْنَ مُنَوَّنًا 24٦٢٤٩٨ for when it
The participle, e.g. سَاْرِقًا in the example above.
is nūnated
فَهُوَ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْفِعْلِ النَّاْصِبِ 25٣١٥٠٩ then it is with the disposition of the action that raises
That is, a verbal form like سَرَقَ or يَسْرِقُ, which elaborates its direct object complement in the accusative (نَصْب).
تَكُوْنُ الْأَسْمَاءُ فِيْهِ مُنْفَصِلَةٌ 26١٢٠٤٠ in which the nominals may be separated
A verb may have an enclitic direct object, e.g. ضَرَبْتُهُ “Struck-I-him”, but the same can always be expressed using a separated term, e.g. ضَرَبْتُ الرَّجُلَ “Struck-I the-man”.
قَالَ الشَّاعِرُ وَهُوَ الشَّمَّاْخُ 27٥٢١١١ the poet _š-Šammāx said

وَقَالَ الْأَخْطَلُ 30٨٦٦٢١ and _l-ɁAxṭal said

وَكَمَا قَالَ ثَمَاْنِيَ حِجَجٍ حَجَجْتُهُنَّ بَيْتَ اللهِ 37٧٨٧٥٥ and as he says θamāniya ḥijajᵢₙ ḥajaj-tu-hunna bayt allāh
«Eight pilgrimages, I pilgrimaged them to the house[acc] of God»
وَمِمَّا جَاْءَ في الشِّعْرِ قَدْ فُصِلَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْمَجْرُوْرِ 38٢١٨٨٩ and among what comes in poetry, in which has separated between it and the retracted
قَوْلُ عَمْرٍو بْنِ قَمِيْئَةَ 39٧٧٧٧٤ is the saying of ʕAmrᵢₙw bn Qamīˀat
40٤٥٢١٢
وَقَالَ أَبُو حَيَّةَ النُّمَيْرِيُّ 41٩٧٧٥٦ and ɁAbū Ḥayyat _n-Numayriyy said
42١٧٦٧٥
وَهٰذَا لَا يَكُوْنُ فِيْهِ إِلَّا هٰذَا 43١٨٨٥٧ and this, there is not in it except this
لِأَنَّهُ لَيْسَ في مَعْنَى فِعْلٍ 44٠٩١٩٠ since it is not in the meaning of an action
وَلَا اسْمِ الْفَاعِلِ الَّذِي جَرَى مَجْرَى الْفِعْلِ 45٢٦٢٣٠ nor of the nominal of the enactant that follows the flow of the action
The participle that behaves like a verb.
وَمِمَّا جَاءَ مَفْصُوْلًا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْمَجْرُوْرِ قَوْلُ الْأَعْشَى 46٩١١٠٦ and among what comes separated between it and what is retracted is the saying of _l-ɁAʕã

وَقَاْلَ ذُو الرُّمَّةِ 48٤١٧٦١ and Ðū _r-Rummat said
49٦٧٠٥١
فَهٰذَا قَبِيْحٌ 50٧٦٥٧١ well this is ugly
وَيَجُوْزُ في الشِّعْرِ عَلَى هٰذَا مَرَرْتُ بِخَيْرِ وَأَفَضَلِ مَنْ ثَمَّ 51٩٠٨٢٨ and marar-tu bi-xayr Ɂafḍal man θamma
«I passed by someone more-excellent[gen] and more-virtuous[gen] than whomever is there»

وَقَاْلَتْ دُرْنَا بِنْتُ عَبْعَبَةَ مِنْ بَنِي قَيْسِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ 52١٦١٩٧ and Durnā bint ʕAbʕabat of Banī Qays bn θaʕlabat said

وَقَاْلَ الْفَرَزْدَقُ 54٣٥٣٨٦ and _l-Farazdaq said

وَأَمَّا قَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَبِمَا نَقْضِهِمْ مِّيْثَاْقَهُمْ 56٤٧٦٠١ and as for His saying (Glorified and Sublime be He)
فَإِنَّمَا جَاءَ لِأَنَّهُ لَيْسَ لِـمَا مَعْنًى 57٤٣٩٥٩ well indeed it comes since there is not for

سِوَى مَا كَاْنَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَجِيءَ 58٥٧٢٢٤ instead of what was there before it came
إِلَّا التَّوْكِيدُ 59٧٠١١٩ except confirmation
فَمِنْ ثَمَّ جَازَ ذٰلِكَ إِذْ لَمْ تُرِدْ بِهِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ هٰذَا 60١١٨٧٢ so from there that passes when you did not mean by it more that this
وَكَانَا حَرْفَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا في الْآخَرِ عَامِلٌ 61٢٧٨٢٣ and they[2] are terms[2] one of them being in the other elaborative
وَلَوْ كَانَ اسْمًا أَوْ ظَرْفًا أَوْ فِعْلًا لَمْ يَجُزْ 62٢٣١٩٧ and if it were a nominal or a context or an action it would not pass
وَأَمَّا قَوْلُهُ أُدْخِلَ فُوْهُ الْحَجَرَ 63٦١٩٣٩ and as for his saying Ɂudxila fū-hu _l-ḥajar
«was-entered, his mouth[nom], the stone[acc]»
فَهٰذَا جَرَى عَلَى سَعَةِ الْكَلَامِ 64٤٥٣٤٢ well this flows on expansion of speech
وَالْجَيِّدُ أُدْخِلَ فَاْهُ الْحَجَرُ 65٨٨٧٩٠ and the more-excellent is Ɂudxila fā-hu _l-ḥajar
«was-entered, in his mouth[acc], the stone[nom]»
كَمَا قَالَ أَدْخَلْتُ فِي رَأْسِي الْقَلَنْسُوَةَ 66٢٧٣٨٥ as he says Ɂadxal-tu fī raɁsī _l-qalansuwat
«I put the cap in my head»
«I made the cap enter in my head»
وَالْجَيِّدُ أَدْخَلْتُ فِي الْقَلَنْسُوَةِ رَأْسِي 67٧٩٧٥٦ and the more-excellent is Ɂadxal-tu fī _l-qalansuwat raɁsī
«I put in the cap my head»
وَلَيْسَ مِثْلَ الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ لِأَنَّهُمَا ظَرْفَاْنِ 68٨١٦٩٥ and it is not like ـl-yawm

فَهُوَ مُخَاْلِفٌ لَهُ في هٰذَا مُوَافِقٌ لَهُ في السَّعَةِ 69٥١٣٠٤ for it disagrees for it in this, but agrees for it in expansion
قَاْلَ الشَّاعِرُ 70٥٣١٦٣ the poet said

فَوَجْهُ الْكَلَامِ فِيْهِ هٰذَا كَرَاْهِيَةَ الِانْفِصَاْلِ 72٦٥٥١٧ so the way of speech in it is this, due to hating separation
وَإِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ في الْجَرِّ 73٠٢٨٨٣ and when not in retraction
فَحَدُّ الْكَلَامِ أَنْ يَكُوْنَ النَّاْصِبُ مَبْدُوْءًا بِهِ 74٥٨٧٣٦ then the discipline of speech is that what raises be begun with
