| هٰذَا بَاْبُ الْجَرِّ | 1٤٠٨٠٥ | this is the topic of retraction |
| وَالْجَرُّ إِنَّمَا يَكُوْنُ في كُلِّ اسْمٍ مُضَاْفٍ إِلَيْهِ | 2٢٤٣٣٢ | and retraction indeed is in each nominal that is associated-to |
| وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّ الْمُضَاْفَ إِلَيْهِ يَنْجَرُّ بِثَلَاْثَةِ أَشْيَاْءَ | 3٦٤٥٢٢ | know that what is associated-to retracts by three things |
| بِشَيْءٍ لَيْسَ بِاسْمٍ وَلَا ظَرْفٍ | 4٢٣٩٧٣ | by something not a nominal nor a contextual |
| وَبِشَيْءٍ يَكُوْنُ ظَرْفًا | 5٥٢٤٦١ | and by something which is a contextual |
| وَبِاسْمٍ لَا يَكُوْنُ ظَرْفًا | 6٠٨١٠٠ | and by a nominal which is not a contextual |
| فَأَمَّا الَّذِي لَيْسَ بِاسْمٍ وَلَا ظَرْفٍ | 7٣٦٨٩٢ | well as for what is not a nominal nor a contextual |
| فَقَوْلُكَ مَرَرْتُ بِعَبْدِ اللهِ | 8٥٧٨٢٨ |
well your saying
marar-tu bi-ʕabdᵢ ـll²āhᵢ «I passed by Abdillah»
|
| وَهٰذَا لِعَبْدِ اللهِ | 9٨٦٤٣٢ |
and
hāðă li-ʕabdᵢ ـll²āhᵢ «This is for Abdillah»
|
| وَمَا أَنْتَ كَزَيْدٍ | 10٣١٨٦٤ |
and
mā Ɂanta ka-zaydᵢₙ «You are not like Zayd»
|
| وَيَا لَبَكْرٍ | 11٨٩٠٨٥ |
and
yā la-Bakrᵢₙ «O Bakr»
|
| وَتَاللهِ لَا أَفْعَلُ ذَاْكَ | 12٣٢٢٦٤ |
and
ta-ـllahᵢ lā Ɂafʕalᵘ ðāka
«By God I will not do that»
|
| وَمِنْ وَفِي وَمُذْ وَعَنْ وَرُبَّ وَمَا أَشْبَهَ ذٰلِكَ | 13٢٠٥٦٦ |
and
min from
and
fīin
and
muðsince
and
ʕanbeyond
and
rubbamany
|
| وَكَذٰلِكَ أَخَذْتُهُ عَنْ زَيْدٍ وَإِلَى زَيْدٍ | 14٤٥٣٤٢ |
and similarly
Ɂaxað-tu-hu ʕan zaydᵢₙ «I took it from Zayd»
and
Ɂilã Zaydᵢₙto Zayd
|
| وَأَمَّا الْحُرُوْفُ الَّتِي تَكُوْنُ ظَرْفًا | 15٢٦٦٣١ | and as for terms that are contextual |
| فَنَحْوُ خَلْفَ وَأَمَامَ | 16٦٠٢٥٠ |
well like
ẋalfa in back of
and
ˀamāmain front of
|
| وَقُدَّاْمَ وَوَرَاْءَ | 17١٩٦٨٣ |
and
qud²āma before
and
warāˀabehind
|
| وَفَوْقَ وَتَحْتَ | 18٩٢١٤٨ |
and
fawqa above
and
taḥtabelow
|
| وَعِنْدَ وَقَبْلَ وَمَعَ | 19٤٥٢٣٣ |
and
ʕinda at; in the vicinity of
and
qablabefore; prior to
and
maʕawith (accompanying)
|
| وَعَلَى لِأَنَّكَ تَقُوْلُ مِنْ عَلَيْكَ | 20٠٥٤٨٧ |
and
ʕalã on; upon; over
since you say
min ʕalay-kafrom over you
|
| كَمَا تَقُوْلُ مِنْ فَوْقِكَ وَذَهَبَ مِنْ مَعِهِ | 21٧٦١٦٣ |
as you say
min fawqᵢ-ka from above you
and
ðahaba min maʕi-hiHe went from with him
|
| وَعَنْ أَيْضًا ظَرْفٌ بِمَنْزِلَةِ ذَاْتِ الْيَمِيْنِ وَالنَّاحِيَةِ | 22٩٢٥٦٥ |
and
ʕan beyond
is also a contextual
with the disposition of
ðāti ـl-yamīnᵢon the right;
direction having the right hand
and
_n-nāḥiyatᵢdirection
|
| أَلَا تَرَى أَنَّكَ تَقُوْلُ مِنْ عَنْ يَمِيْنِكَ | 23٧٩٩١٥ |
surely you see that you say
min ʕan yamīnᵢ-ka from beyond your right
|
| كَمَا تَقُوْلُ مِنْ نَاحِيَةِ كَذَا وَكَذَا | 24١١٨٢٤ |
as you say
min nāḥiyatᵢ kaðã wa-kaðã from the direction of
such-and-such
|
| وَقُبَالَةَ وَمَكَانَكَ وَدُوْنَ | 25٣٨٤٣٠ |
and
qubālatᵃ facing
and
makānᵃkain your place
and
dūnabelow
|
| وَقَبْلَ وَبَعْدَ | 26٢٩٠٣٨ |
and
qabla before (temporal)
and
baʕdaafter (temporal)
|
| وَإِزَاءَ وَحِذَاءَ | 27٨٤٤٥٢ |
and
Ɂizāˀᵃ opposite, facing
and
ḥiðāˀᵃfronting, facing
|
| وَمَا أَشْبَهَ هٰذَا مِنْ الْأَمْكِنَةِ وَالْأَزْمِنَةِ | 28٤٢٤٨٩ | and what resembles this of places and times |
| وَذٰلِكَ قَوْلُكَ أَنْتَ خَلْفَ عَبْدِ اللهِ | 29٦٠٢٤٠ |
and that is your saying
Ɂanta xalfᵃ ʕabdᵢ allāhᵢ «You are behind Abdillah»
|
| وَأَمَاْمَ زَيْدٍ وَقُدَّاْمَ أَخِيْكَ | 30٢٨٩٤٦ |
and
ˀamāma zaydᵢₙ in front of Zayd
and
qud²āma ˀaẋīkabefore your brother
|
| وَكَذٰلِكَ سَاْئِرُ هَذِهِ الْحُرُوْفِ | 31٠١٥٥٩ | and similarly the rest of these terms |
| وَهَذِهِ الظُّرُوْفُ أَسْمَاْءٌ | 32٩٩٧٣٤ | and these contextuals are nominals |
| وَلٰكِنَّهَا صَاْرَتْ مَوَاْضِعَ لِلْأَشْيَاءِ | 33٢٧٦١٢ | but they become places for things |
| وَأَمَّا الْأَسْمَاْءُ | 34٣٧١٣٠ | and as for the nominals |
| فَنَحْوُ مِثْلٍ وَغَيْرٍ وَكُلٍّ وَبَعْضٍ | 35٨١٤٦٣ |
well such as
miθlᵢₙ like
and
ġayrᵢₙother
and
kullᵢₙall; every
and
baʕḍᵢₙsome
|
| وَمِثْلُ ذٰلِكَ أَيْضًا الْأَسْمَاْءُ الْمُخْتَصَّةُ | 36٥٢١٦٨ | and like that also are the nominals which are specialized |
| نَحْوُ حِمَاْرٍ وَجِدَاْرٍ وَمَاْلٍ | 37٠٠٣٥٧ |
such as
ḥimārᵢₙ a donkey
and
jidārᵢₙa wall
and
mālᵢₙwealth
|
| وَأَفْعَلَ نَحْوَ قَوْلِكَ هٰذَا أَعْمَلُ النَّاْسِ | 38٨٣٥٥٦ |
and
ˀafʕala Abstract elative form; e.g.
أَكْبَرُ
such as your saying
hāðă Ɂaʕmalᵘ _n-nāsᵢ«This is the most-laboring of
the people»
|
| وَمَا أَشْبَهَ هٰذَا مِنَ الْأَسَمَاْءِ كُلِّهَا | 39٨٠٠٥٦ | and what resembles this of all the nominals |
| وَذٰلِكَ قَوْلُكَ هٰذَا مِثْلُ عَبْدِ اللهِ | 40٤٥٩٤٤ |
and that is your saying
hāðă miθlᵘ ʕabdᵢ allāhᵢ «This is like Abdillah»
|
| وَهٰذَا كُلُّ مَاْلِكَ وَبَعْضُ قَوْمِكَ | 41٧٩٠٠٤ |
and
hāðă kullᵘ mālᵢ-ka
«This is all of your wealth»
and
baʕḍᵘ qawmᵢ-kasome of your people
|
| وَهٰذَا حِمَاْرُ زَيْدٍ وَجِدَاْرُ أَخِيْكَ وَمَاْلُ عَمْرٍو | 42٧٦٥٣٦ |
and
hāðă ḥimārᵘ zaydᵢₙ «This is the donkey of Zayd»
and
jidārᵘ Ɂaẋī-kathe wall of your brother
and
mālᵘ ʕamrᵢₙthe wealth of Amr
|
| وَهٰذَا أَشَدُّ النَّاْسِ | 43٠٣٨٦٤ |
and
hāðă Ɂašaddᵘ _n-nāsᵢ «This is the most-intense of
the people»
|
| وَأَمَّا الْـبَاْءُ وَمَا أَشْبَهَهَا | 44٩١٢٦٢ |
and as for the
bāˀᵘ (the حرف) bi (بِ)
and what resembles it
|
| فَلَيْسَتْ بِظُرُوْفٍ وَلَا أَسْمَاْءٍ | 45٠٥٩٩٨ | well they are not contextuals nor nominals |
| وَلٰكِنَّهَا يُضَاْفُ بِهَا إِلَى الِاسْمِ مَا قَبْلَهُ أَوْ مَا بَعْدَهُ | 46٢٩٢١٦ | but by them what precedes the nominal and what follows it is associated to nominal |
| فَإِذَا قُلْتَ يَا لَبَكْرٍ | 47٤٣٩٩٥ |
so if you say
yā la-Bakrᵢₙ O Bakr
|
| فَإِنَّمَا أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ | 48٨٦٨٢٣ | then indeed you intend that you make |
| مَا يَعْمَلُ في الْمُنَاْدَى مِنَ الْفِعْلِ الْمُضْمَرِ | 49٣٦٦٣٥ | what elaborates in the summonee, of the implicit action, |
| مُضَاْفًا إِلَى بَكْرٍ بِالـلَّامِ | 50١٤٩٠١ |
something associated to Bakr by the
lām lām
|
| وَإِذَا قُلْتَ مَرَرْتُ بِزَيْدٍ | 51٩٧٩١٦ |
and when you say
marar-tu bi-zaydᵢₙ «I passed by Zayd»
|
| فَإِنَّمَا أَضَفْتَ الْمُرُوْرَ إِلَى زَيْدٍ بِالْـبَاءِ | 52٥٨٢٨٨ |
then indeed you associate
the murūr (“passing”)
to Zayd by the
bāˀᵢ bā (بِ)
|
| وَكَذٰلِكَ هٰذَا لِعَبْدِ اللهِ | 53٤٩٢٢٢ |
and similarly
hāðă li-ʕabdᵢ ـll²āhᵢ «This is for Abdillah»
«This is Adbullha's»
|
| وَإِذَا قُلْتَ أَنْتَ كَعَبْدِ اللهِ | 54١٤٢٦٦ |
and when you say
Ɂanta ka-ʕabdᵢ ـll²āhᵢ «You are like Abdillah»
|
| فَقَدْ أَضَفْتَ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ الشَبَهَ بِالْـكَافِ | 55٨٣٢٩٠ |
then you have associated
the šabah (“resemblance”)
to Abdillahi by the
kāfᵢ kāf (كَ)
|
| وَإِذَا قُلْتَ أَخَذْتُهُ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ | 56٨٤٣٧٦ |
and when you say
Ɂaxað-tu-hu min ʕabdᵢ allāhᵢ «I took it from Zayd»
|
| فَقَدْ أَضَفْتَ الْأَخْذَ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بِـمِنْ | 57١٥٦١٦ |
then you have associated
the Ɂaxð (“taking”)
to Abdillahi by
min from
|
| وَإِذَا قُلْتَ مُذْ زَمَاْنٍ | 58٢٨٢٤٩ |
and when you say
muð zamānᵢₙ since a time; for some time
|
| فَقَدْ أَضَفْتَ الْأَمْرَ إِلَى وَقْتٍ مِنَ الزَّمَاْنِ بِـمُذْ | 59٥٧٢٧٣ |
then you have associated
the Ɂamr (“matter”)
to a period of time by
muð since
|
| وَإِذَا قُلْتَ أَنْتَ فِي الدَّاْرِ | 60٦٢٤٠٣ |
and when you say
Ɂanta fī ـd-dārᵢ «You are in the house»
|
| فَقَدْ أَضْفَتَ كَيْنُوْنَتَكَ فِي الدَّاْرِ إِلَى الدَّاِْرِ بِـفِي | 61١٨٨٢١ |
then you have associated
your being in the house to the house by
fī in
|
| وَإِذَا قُلْتَ فِيْكَ خَصْلَةُ سَوْءٍ | 62٧٢٠٦١ |
and when you say
fī-ka xaṣlatᵘ sawɁᵢₙ «In you is a feature of evil»
|
| فَقَدْ أَضَفْتَ إِلَيْهِ الرَّدَاْءَةَ بِـفِي | 63٣٤٢١٠ |
then you have associated corruption to him by
fī in
|
| وَإِذَا قُلْتَ رُبَّ رَجُلٍ يَقُوْلُ ذَاْكَ | 64٦٦٧٣٦ |
and when you say
rubbᵃ rajulᵢₙ yaqūlᵘ ðāka
«Many a man says that»
|
| فَقَدْ أَضْفَتْ الْقَوْلَ إِلَى الرَّجُلِ بِـرُبَّ | 65٣١٢٣٩ |
then you have associated the saying
to the man by
rubbᵃ many-a
|
| وَإِذَا قُلْتَ بِاللهِ وَوَاللهِ وَتَالَلّٰهِ | 66٦٦٢٨٣ |
and when you say
bi-_llāhᵢ by God
and
wa-_llāhᵢand (by) God
and
ta-_llāhᵢby God
|
| فَإِنَّمَا أَضَفْتَ الْحَلْفَ إِلَى اللهِ سُبْحَانَهُ | 67٠٥٦٩٤ | then you have associated the oath to God (Exalted be He) |
| كَمَا أَضَفْتَ النِّدَاْءَ بِالـلَّامِ إِلَى بَكْرٍ حِيْنَ قُلْتَ يَا لَبَكْرٍ | 68٢٢١٣٢ |
as you associate the summoning by the
lāmᵢ lām
to Bakr when you say
yā la-BakrᵢₙO Bakr
|
| وَكَذٰلِكَ رَوَيْتُهُ عَنْ زَيْدٍ | 69٧٦٥٩٣ |
and similarly
raway-tu-hu ʕan zaydᵢₙ «»
|
| أَضَفْتَ الرِّوَاْيَةَ إِلَى زَيْدٍ بِـعَنْ | 70٦٢٦٩٧ |
you associate the recitation to Zayd by
ʕan from
